My vision

Another Pink Gi is a weekly blog focused on women's Brazilian jiu jitsu journeys--the unique opportunities we get from training along with the challenges we face. It was created with the idea of uplifting female voices and discussing women's experiences in our sport, but all genders are welcome.

Just no mansplaining, please and thank you.

Who am I?

Sara Raffel

I don't own a pink gi, but I do have a blue gi with pink patches. Does that count?

I'm a BJJ blue belt and judo green belt who has been training martial arts in Florida since June 2016. I love the sport, but sometimes it's isolating as a women. I have so many questions: what are the best ladies' rash guards, spats, and gis? How do you deal with guys who won't do a technique fully on you because they're afraid to break you? Do you train on your period? With these (and so many more!) in mind, I wanted to create a space for women to share stories about their jiu jitsu journeys.

BJJ is a long road, and I'm just starting. I can't claim to speak for every woman in our sport, but I hope to start a conversation that my sisters can add to. We can all learn from each other.

Opinions are my own and are not in any way reflective of my professors or training affiliation.
